In his monthly column, AWWA Executive Director Jack Hoffbuhr discusses severaltopics of concern dating back to 1974 on the debate surrounding drinking water, and compares/contrasts the progress made in the past 26 years on these issues. They include: the need for more advanced treatment technology to meetwater‐supply requirements; the need for all surface water supplies to be treatedwith filtration in addition to disinfection; mandatory operator certification; unaccounted‐for water; and, the need for utilities to improve public credibility.
