This article describes how small water systems are organized in British Columbia; discusses the two separate jurisdictions for public water supply systems with respect to policies, procedures, and funding; describes how the new Safe Drinking Water Regulation became effective in 1992 and made disinfection of surface supplies mandatory; and states that although operator certification is not required, the use of certified operators is encouraged, especially for complex facilities.
