Innovative training center combines peer‐to‐peer instruction and technical assistance to hone trainees' know‐how. For 15 years, the Maryland Center for Environmental Training (MCET) has been dedicated to training operators to deliver safe drinking water to local communities. The state of Maryland has been a national leader in the operator certification movement and has developed a rigorous program for building operators' technical skills and ensuring appropriate qualification of all operators working in the state. MCET's training and technical assistance programs are based on solid principles, including peer‐to‐peer training, building local expertise, and developing and distributing effective publications and training curricula.
