This article discusses the term “operation and maintenance” (O&M) in the context of small water systems. Key elements of O&M discussed include understanding how each phase of the treatment operation is supposed to work as well as how each piece of equipment is supposed to work, establishing a maintenance program, and stocking spare parts.
