In his column, AWWA Executive Director Jack Hoffbuhr discusses the history of drinking water regulations in the United States and shows how, as the country has grown, so has the number and complexity of regulations. The need for a new approach in the regulatory process is advocated since contaminant‐by‐contaminant regulation will not effectively protect public health in the long run.
