In his column, AWWA Executive Director Jack Hoffbuhr reflects on the “good old days” enjoyed by the drinking water industry in the 1960s and 1970s, and discusses how that period of relative stability has changed to the present‐day highly charged, complex legislative/regulatory environment. Pressure from environmental groups, law firms looking for settlements, and an increasingly aware public have increased the need for different methods of communication. This column discusses some of the new trials utilities face and the methods of change that are needed for success.
