Using financial ratios, the authors establish indicators that can be used to monitor a utility's financial performance. As part of AWWA's QualServe program, utilities will require yardsticks that include system financial performance indicators. The purpose of this article is to provide a set of financial indicators to aid utility managers in their efforts to measure financial health and performance. Provided are readily available tools to track system financial performance to help assure the future viability of the system and the provision of water to the public.
