The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) amendments of 1996 contain several important provisions intended to better protect source water from contamination. Three new programs are created, and the existing programs administered by the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) related to source water protection are reauthorized. The amended SDWA provisions are summarized.
