A task force established by the Maine PUC recommends new fire protection charges. In response to assertions by Maine Public Utility Commission (PUC) staff members that private fire protection charges duplicated public fire protection charges and should be substantially reduced or eliminated, the Maine PUC established a Task Force to examine the issue. This article describes the approach the task force recommended for determining private fire protection charges, an approach that was adopted by the Maine PUC. The task force's alternative suggestion is also presented.
