Japan, one of the most industrialized countries in the world, has water treatment processes that have some unique features. Similar in size and latitude to the state of California, Japan has a population of 120 million people heavily concentrated in large urban areas. Seasonal typhoons, as well as population density, affect the requirements of water treatment. This article summarizes a visit to six treatment plants in the Tokyo and Osaka regions.
