The main purpose of this report is to present the results of the special session, “Computers in the Water Industry: The Next Five Years,” held at the 1987 AWWA annual conference in Kansas City, Mo., and sponsored by AWWA's Computer Advances Research Committee. Also included is an overview of automation in the area of water supply, giving management, technical, and computer‐centered viewpoints. The report concludes with a summary of the committee's short‐term plans.
