In a case of interest to private utilities in general, the Supreme Court of the United States had to decide whether the California Public Utility Commission could require a privately owned utility company to include in its billing envelopes the opinions of a third party with which the utility disagreed. The court ruled that such an order was impermissible under the First Amendment.
