Sir Norman Rowntree is a former director of the Water Resources Board for England and Wales. A retired professor of civil engineering at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, he is currently a civil engineering consultant dealing with the public health aspects of water resources management or development. In recognition of his distinguished career, he was knighted 16 years ago.
