David B. Preston, executive director of AWWA, was the guest of Kazu Hayashida, general manager of the Honolulu Board of Water Supply, in the spring of 1983. The two visited one of the groundwater supply wells for the island of Oahu and discussed Honolulu's water sources and plans for the future. Shortly thereafter, traces of pesticides were found in some of the well fields. This problem and the course of action taken to rectify it were discussed in June 1984 (part 2 of the interview) during A WWA's annual conference in Dallas.
