Selecting the best design for new distribution pumping stations is difficult without the aid of mathematical computer models. Several analyses of the Norfolk (Va.) water system were performed to determine pump characteristics at various demand conditions, system head curves, pump combinations, control valve‐sizing, and back‐pressure control settings.
