In this issue of “Viewpoint,” the author advocates a sustained water conservation program. Conservation is not simply reducing waste, but the act of keeping or protecting from loss or injury. The author discusses the following points in favor of utilizing a sustained water conservation program: such a program is good for everyone; sustained water‐saving and waste reduction will not harm revenues if good public relations programs are implemented; water conservation programs can be coordinated with other conservation programs such as wastewater management, land‐use planning, recreation, and economic development; development and exchange of information on management practices and water‐saving techniques with business and multi‐family dwellings; and mandatory installation of water‐saving devices.
