A high‐pressure liquid chromatographic method is proposed for isolating and quantifying aqueous solutions of anatoxin‐a, a neurotoxin produced by certain strains of Anabaena flos‐aquae. A normal phase Silica‐A column with an 80 percent solution of isopropanol in hexane or a C 18 reverse phase column with an 80 percent aqueous solution of acetonitrile gave good separation. Ultraviolet spectrophotometric detection at 227 nm provided for optimum quantification.
