The story behind the cover photograph on the August 1981 JOURNAL AWWA is told. The granular activated carbon columns in the photograph were installed in Lee County, Florida, while the author's firm was general water consultant to the county. These units and a chlorine dioxide feed system were designed and installed to remove taste, odor, and trihalomethanes.
