The interface between hydrology and atmospheric sciences is essential for water management, especially in complex situations such as those in Chicago. Historic weather and climate data can be computerized to predict long‐term climatic probabilities, and radar techniques are useful in predicting short‐term rainfall amounts. The availability of these new techniques should be known to all those involved in managing water resources.
