Cavitation damage can occur to almost any type of hydraulic structure. It is often neglected or ignored in the design and construction of hydraulic structures, and the results can be costly. This paper discusses the different types, causes, and mechanics of cavitation and cavitation damage and the methods for preventing damage to hydraulic structures.
