There is a recognized need for the United Stales to reduce its dependence on imported oil, and a broad range of energy sources and programs have been proposed in an effort to achieve energy self‐sufficiency. One alternative energy source–hydropower–offers attractive benefits Water supplies with dependable flows and full regulation capabilities are prime candidates for hydropower development.
