Baffle renovations in a Kansas City, Kan., water treatment plant showed that vertical baffles yielded better distribution control and floc handling than did perforated baffles at the inlet of rectangular settling basins. Replacing perforated baffles with vertical ones provided equal dispersion across the basin and preserved the integrity of coagulated floc particles.
