The four persons who became ill on Nov. 22, 1977, in Harbor Springs, Mich., apparently suffered the first reported cases of illness in the US resulting from a malfunctioning community fluoridation process but this type of incident could occur in any municipal water system that does not properly control chemical feed equipment.
