Carbon suppliers can examine a plant prior to GAC installation, make bed measurements, and suggest the best mesh size carbon and the optimum wash rate. The method described here was developed by one supplier for predicting prior to the installation of GAC in rapid gravity filters whether bed losses will occur. Its application can enable treatment plants to operate efficiently using GAC.
