Pollution of water sources for the Netherlands’ 1 billion cubic metre annual water production is sufficiently high that treatment with activated carbon is indispensable. Described here are several currently operating carbon filter installations and pilot plants. Criteria for contact time and run lengths between regenerations are discussed.
