The specific role of the National Drinking Water Advisory Council as related to the proposed organics regulations is discussed in addition to the basic operating structure of the council. The establishment of maximum contaminant levels (MCLs) for trihalomethanes, and a treatment technique for the removal of synthetic organic compounds from water supplies are covered. The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and EPA's role in implementing new regulations are examined.
