AWWA and many water utilities have opposed the issuance of EPA's new organic regulations, citing many facts supporting their position. These facts, presented at the EPA and Senate oversight hearings, point up serious questions as to the validity of the scientific evidence of health effects presented by EPA as well as its estimates of costs. AWWA and the water supply industry are opposed to spending vast sums of the public's money to solve a problem of doubtful existence with unproved remedies.
