Arising from the National Organics Reconnaissance Survey, an investigation of drinking water in Philadelphia, Pa., discovered bis (2‐chloroethyl) ether in the finished product. The source of the pollutant was a chemical manufacturing plant that cooperated with the EPA and the City of Philadelphia to remove the compound through pretreatment of the plant effluent.
