The state of the art of water treatment in Japan has been refined steadily, especially in the last three decades. Various techniques, including flash mixing, flocculation, filtration, backwash, and sedimentation, are discussed as they are used in Japan. Also summarized are countermeasures used against pollution into and out of the treatment plant.
