The Northern Illinois Water Corporation is an investor owned water utility and provides service to Urbana, Savoy, Bondville, the University of Illinois, and the area around these communities in addition to Champaign, Illinois. The area is served by eight fire departments, as well as five volunteer fire departments in the outlying area. The three major effects of grading schedule changes were rate of fire flow, duration of fire flow, and fire hydrant spacing.
