Because significant revenues can be lost through inaccurate metering, the selection of accurate meters is very important to the water utility. One approach to this goal is to utilize the meter that is the most accurate for the longest period of time. This article compares several time frames for changing to magnetic drive meters, considered by the authors to be the most economical in the long term, from mechanical drive meters in terms of maintenance, repair, personnel, service life, and increased revenues.
