This report on waterborne disease in the US deals with outbreaks of gastroenteritis of undetermined etiology, shigellosis, giardiasis, hepatitis‐A, typhoid, and chemical poisoning. Outbreaks are analyzed by cause, type of treatment system, and season. Improved surveillance procedures and more conscientious reporting are seen as partly responsible for the increase in the reported incidence of waterborne disease outbreaks since 1970.
