When nature pits winter against the inhabitants of the northeastern US, water Utilities have a multitude of Problems, a few of which include ice blocks in tanks, tank overflows, frozen intakes and fire hydrants, and frost penetration. This article is intended to aid water‐utility personnel in dealing with such emergencies.
