The Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974 directed EPA to establish interim primary drinking‐water Standards. Promulgated Jun. 6, 1975, they are to be implemented Dec. 24, 1976. Implementation of the Standards will involve large expenditures and initiate new Communications between the public and the water‐supply professional. Identified here are weaknesses in the Standards and suggested means to correct them.
