Although there is an increased consumer interest in water utility practices, there is little information available concerning the effects of the widely practiced policy of water shutoff caused by a delinquent account. To remedy this deficiency partially a 10 per cent sample of shutoffs during a recent twelve‐month period in a large midwestern metropolitan area (Cincinnati, Ohio) was analyzed.
