Surges resulting from acceleration and deceleration of fluids in a pipeline are familiar to personnel who are responsible for the design and operation of water systems. This article presents design criteria and testing methods of facilities for surge suppression for the Calleguas conduit located in the San Fernando Valley in the cities of Glendale, Burbank, Los Angeles, and San Fernando.
