Misconceptions, apathy, and ignorance on the part of the public have been instrumental in delaying action where water‐quality improvement is concerned. Only recently have efforts been initiated to enlighten people about their water and what it contains, but more cooperation is needed among water utilities, consumer and civic groups, and environmental organizations if higher‐quality water is to be attained.
