For the past several years, the Bureau of Reclamation (BuRec) has been investigating the load deflection characteristics of steel and plastic‐base pipe buried in a special laboratory test container. The results have been enlightening and have raised some interesting questions. This article is one of the first complete reports comparing the deflections.
