After observing conventional treatment processes through several seasonal changes in characteristics of the turbid Kansas River, one concludes that there is much room for improvement in the methods of clarification still in use today. Laboratory investigations, and subsequent actual application to the river over a two‐year period, have shown the so‐called polyelectrolytes to be much more effective than Standard coagulants.
