All things not necessarily considered, the prospective equipment buyer, nevertheless, may have to take account of cost, performance, servicing, who is doing the buying, and who will be working with the equipment—among other factors. The first three of seven presentations—originally given at the Ontario Sec. meeting in Mar. 1971—of this joint discussion contain information that describe the following: A general accounting of most of the factors involved How the utility should buy when it is the final customer and contractor or when it contracts for the work The customer–supplier relationship and what each should expect of the other The last four presentations are devoted to the considerations that enter into servicing, cost, procedural guidelines, and suitability of equipment selection and the advisability of in‐house maintenance.
