The controls that management uses are considered to be functions, integrated to management systems that lead to planned objectives. In this article, productivity control is emphasized as a measure of managerial effectiveness; and the control‐system design elements are described with special reference to information needs, intensity of control, and the expected time lags in responding to corrective actions.
