Some communities may find it necessary to draw from brackish sources in order to balance supply with demand—even for brief, infrequent periods. Electrodialysis can be used to improve the dissolved solids makeup of the water. The authors report on a particular model for predicting the operating costs of an intermittently functioning electrodialysis plant.
