It has been said by some environmentalists that the water utilities—among all industries—are the greatest water‐pollution offenders of all. Here is a report on reuse that details a method for eliminating the byproduct of water treatment—sludge—while producing such valuable chemicals as lime and magnesium carbonate, which can be sold for profit and thereby reduce costs.
