Since the solubility of ferrous iron in groundwaters is limited by the solubility of ferrous carbonate and since the 50‐year‐old solubility product cannot account for the high concentrations of Fe(II) found in natural groundwaters, this study was undertaken in order to redetermine the solubility product of ferrous carbonate and to determine what effect, if any, complexation of Fe(II) by bicarbonate or carbonate has on the overall solubility of Fe(II). Experimental results are discussed.
