Numerical method by finite differences is used for the analysis of cylindrical and conical tank walls of variable thickness. Tables are presented which give the ring tension and bending moments in cylindrical tapered walls. Finite differences are also used to derive the wall flexibility and stiffness matrices related to edge displacements. Two tables are given for the calculation of the effects of radial forces and displacements. Finally, the continuity between cylindrical and conical walls is treated by finite differences.
