This article presents a tentative method for the determination of metals in water. This method was evaluated in a collaborative study conducted by the Analytical Reference Service, Training Program, National Center for Urban and Industrial Health. On the basis of the precision and accuracy data, the method was found to be acceptable. In accordance with the procedure agreed upon by the three sponsoring associations ‐ American Public Health Association, AWWA, and Water Pollution Control Federation ‐ these methods have been submitted to the Joint Editorial Board for the thirteenth edition of Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater and have been adopted as “tentative” methods, effective July 1968.
