This article discusses studies and investigations by the Orange County (California) Water District in the field of wastewater reclamation to determine the feasibility of providing an additional source of potable water to sustain the economy of the area. The district's studies were conducted as far as practical on the basis of past research. A pilot plant and laboratory capable of reclaiming a nominal amount of water were constructed, and the water was studied to determine not only the cost of production, but also the degree of public safety associated with its renovation and use.
