This article discusses the development of several types of flexible joints for all sizes of concrete pressure and sewer pipe. The behavior of rubber gasket joints and the material properties required for successful performance are described. Except for the 44‐durometer gaskets tested for contact pressure and compression set of stretched specimens, all results and conclusions are based upon the rubber and steel joint in which the fully confined 60‐durometer gasket fills the gasket groove.
