The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of pH, period of operation, and column depth on the electrokinetic properties and internal behavior mechanism of a clay‐silica system. The operation of a slow sand filter was partially simulated in the laboratory by passing colloidal clay suspensions through a column of porous silica sand.
