It is becoming more and more apparent that water carrying a small amount of particulate matter produces less head loss than when water alone is flowing, all other conditions being the same. Under certain conditions, head loss suppression may be considerable, and increased efficiency of pumping may be realized. This article discusses the potential of head loss suppression of suspended matter, and also presents some new two‐phase (solid‐water) systems data.
